Amazon listing suppressed because of the main image: how to fix it

A step-by-step fix for the most common image problems: backgrounds that are not pure white, overlays, props and poor framing.

Amazon · Last checked November 1, 2026

The short answer

Amazon suppresses a listing from search when its main image breaks the rules, most often because the background is not pure white, or the image has text, logos, props or poor framing. Open your suppressed listings in Seller Central, read the stated reason, fix that image, upload it as the main image and recheck the listing.

What a suppressed listing means

A suppressed listing still exists, but it stops appearing in search, so sales usually fall quickly. Unlike a listing removal, suppression is normally fixable by correcting the listing itself, and the listing can return once it meets the requirement.

Why main images get suppressed

CauseWhat it looks likeFix
Background not pure whiteLight gray, a gradient or a soft shadow behind the productFill the background with RGB 255, 255, 255
Added overlaysText, logos, badges, borders or watermarksRemove them and move the message to a secondary image
Props or stagingHands, tables, scenery or items not included in the purchaseShow only the product and what ships with it
Poor framingProduct too small, or cropped at the edgeFill about 85% of the frame without cropping
Not a real product photoAn illustration, or a render that looks syntheticUse a real photo of the product
Low resolution or wrong formatUnder 1000 pixels on the longest side, or an unsupported file typeExport a 2000 × 2000 JPEG

How to fix it, step by step

  1. In Seller Central, open your inventory and filter for suppressed listings. Note the exact reason Amazon gives, because it tells you which rule to fix.
  2. Open the main image in an editor and sample the background with the eyedropper, including the areas next to the product. Every sample should read 255, 255, 255.
  3. Remove any text, badges, props and borders. Logos printed on the product itself can stay.
  4. Center the product so it fills about 85% of the frame, with nothing cropped.
  5. Export a square JPEG of at least 1000 pixels, ideally 2000 × 2000, and flatten any transparency to white.
  6. Upload the file as the MAIN image in the listing editor.
  7. Recheck the live page and the suppressed listings view. New images can take some time to appear.
  8. Repeat for every child variation, since each one needs its own compliant main image.

Brightening a photo is not the same as making it pure white. Fill the background instead, then check the values with an eyedropper. Here is how to check for true white.

If the listing stays suppressed

  • Sample the background again. Leftover off-white pixels from background removal are a common reason a “fixed” image still fails.
  • Check that you updated the right image: the main image, on the right child ASIN.
  • Read your category’s style guide, which may have extra rules for models or multipacks.
  • Open a support case with the corrected image attached if the reason still shows after the page updates.

How to prevent it next time

Check every main image against the Amazon image requirements before upload, and keep the original files so you can correct them quickly. If you use AI tools, compare the result with your real product, because an image that does not match the product is a problem even when its background is perfect. See the rules for AI images on Amazon.

Common questions

How long does it take for a suppressed listing to come back?

Seller guides report that a new image can take up to 24 hours to appear. If the suppression reason still shows after the page has updated, recheck the image and contact support.

Why is my white background being rejected?

It probably only looks white. Studio white often photographs as light gray, and background removal can leave off-white areas. Check with an eyedropper and fill the background with RGB 255, 255, 255.

Can a logo on the product cause suppression?

A logo printed on the product itself is normally fine. Logos or text added on top of the image are not allowed on the main image.
